Taylormade Wardrobes has been established in the north east of England for over twenty years. Initially trading as Taylormade Fittings and recently changing to Taylormade Wardrobes. When the business was first established it concentrated on providing a quality fitting service for sliding wardrobes but because it was sold as a DIY product a lot of people felt it was beyond their DIY capabilities, hence the need for a fitting service. It soon became apparent that customers not only needed the DIY product to be fitted but also required a more “made to measure” service for the wardrobe frontage and interior. In 1987 the business expanded into the made to measure wardrobe interior market. As a result of the availability of a fitting service the demand for sliding wardrobes and made to measure interiors increased dramatically and in 1989 Dickens DIY stores asked Taylormade Fittings to provide a fabrication and fitting service for their sliding wardrobe systems. Over the next five years trade increased to such an extent that our business then became a supplier of made to measure sliding wardrobes to Dickens DIY stores.
In 1999 Dickens DIY were bought by B&Q stores and B&Q felt that they did not want to continue with a product that was not an “off the shelf product”.
Towards the end of 1999 Taylormade Wardrobes opened their first showroom on Bowesfield Lane in Stockton-on-Tees. There are currently plans for two further showrooms to be opened in the north east of England.
The showroom in Stockton-on-Tees has over 25 systems on display; also on display are freestanding bedside tables and dressing table units that match the wood grain effect sliding wardrobes. All of these freestanding products are also made to measure.
In 2001 Swan sliding wardrobes became the latest addition to the vast range of bedroom products that are available from Taylormade Wardrobes. Swan wardrobes are available in over twelve different wood effect colours. Taylormade is now an area stockiest of Murphy Wall Bed, which are great for making those small rooms more usable. The latest addition to the Taylomade range of sliding wardrobes is the pearl range offering five metallic colours as well as white and wenge. These doors can be split in order to give an oriental look.
Taylormade Wardrobes continue to offer a high quality fitting service based around the products available from their showroom.
As the new millennium gets under way Taylormade Wardrobes will continue to be one of the most dominant forces in the sliding wardrobe market in the north east of England.
At the beginning of 2006 we open our second show room which is based in Darlington with over 20 systems on display and an array of freestanding and built in furniture. With the success of our Darlington show room we have plans for to open a further show room in the near future.
